This covers everything that is not a wedding, a quinceañera or a graduation: a gala dinner, the company end-of-year party, a fortieth birthday, a first communion, an awards evening. Each one calls for a different register, and the difference between getting it right and looking overdressed is reading the context properly.
A midday corporate event does not take the same treatment as a nine o clock gala. For the first I aim for a natural finish that works under office lighting and in corporate photographs; for the second I can go to a more worked eye or an intense lip, which hold up under artificial light without looking excessive.
