Makeup for camera follows different rules to everyday makeup. The camera flattens volume, so you need more definition than looks necessary to the naked eye; at the same time it picks up every bit of texture, so the skin has to be better prepared than ever. Makeup that looks perfect in the mirror can read completely flat in the photograph.
There are specific traps, too: powders containing silica bounce the flash back and show up as white patches on the forehead and chin, and high-SPF products do exactly the same. You do not see any of it until you review the shots, and by then it is too late.
What kind of shoot it is, where, under what lighting and what the images are for. A moodboard helps.
A short conversation with whoever is shooting avoids surprises: the lighting they plan to use changes makeup decisions.
I stay to retouch between shots and handle look changes. On long shoots that is what keeps the images consistent.
